Welcome to the Equine Management Course!

What we offer:

A fun, hands on way of learning about what it takes to own and properly care for a horse. This is a comprehensive course that includes feeding, lectures, then applying those concepts in real life.

Children and Adults:

We accept students ages 10 and up for this course. If you have a child younger than that, that would like to attend, one parent must accompany the child for the whole course.

What to Expect during a Management Course:

This course is held once a week for 4 weeks and is 6 hours with a 1 hour lunch break. The first day students will come and be assigned a horse which will be theirs to take care of during this course. Then students will be taught how to feed their horses. While the horses are eating we will have the lecture portion our lesson. When the lecture is over and the horses are finished eating we will apply that day's lesson to real life. These lessons include:

  • Basic anatomy

  • Farrier

  • Safety when working around horses

  • Basic care for a horse such as maintenance, vaccinations, cost etc.

  • Feeding and how to calculate feed rations-pros and cons to grain

  • Basic first aid-when to call a vet

  • How to take a horses vital signs and what is considered normal

  • Bathing and Grooming

  • Different types of exercise and how it benefits the horse

    • Lunging

    • Round pen work

    • Under saddle

  • How to determine if a horse is a healthy weight (body condition scoring)

While we do have our lessons planned out, we strive to make sure that the topics the students want to cover are addressed. At the end of the 4 weeks students will have the opportunity to show off their new skills and knowledge to their parents at our show and tell day!

What you'll need for lessons:

Long pants, Lace up shoes or boots, water bottle, weather permitting coat or sunscreen, muck boots or rubber boots (boots that can get wet when we bathe the horses), and a lunch.
