Picking a Puppy

Many of our family are from all across the USA. To be considerate of those having to book flights to pick up their puppy, we allow families to start choosing their puppies at 2 weeks old. This allows families to plan ahead and arrange travel.

We breed for well rounded and minded puppies. Each dog develops their own personalities. Studies show that the first 8 weeks gives the puppy a good foundation but most of their personalities are shaped by environment and genetics. "The two papers noted above are worth reading. The first one convincingly showed that evaluations of puppies were of little use in predicting behavior as an adult. They evaluated 630 German Shepherds at 8 weeks and again at 450-600 days (roughly 1.5-2 yrs). They found that heritability of some of the behavioral traits they looked at was modest, so selection for those would result in some improvement. But the "correspondence of puppy test results to performance at adult age was negligible and the puppy test was therefore not found useful in predicting adult suitability for service dog work".

The second study is recent so the information is up to date, and it does a good job of recognizing the potential pitfalls of studying puppies to predict adult behavior. But again, they "found little correspondence between individuals' behaviour in the neonate, puppy and adult test. Exploratory activity was the only behaviour that was significantly correlated between the puppy and the adult test. We conclude that the predictive validity of early tests for predicting specific behavioural traits in adult pet dogs in limited". https://www.instituteofcaninebiology.org/blog/genetics-behavior-and-puppy-temperament-testing

Both parents have been selected for our program based off of personality, drive, temperament and trainability. This is why we allow families to choose their puppies at 2 weeks old. New families should seek out reputable trainer that focus on positive reinforcement to build the confidence of their dogs.

Pick up Dates

Puppies are ready for their new homes 8 weeks after birth. We allow 10 days after their 8 week mark to be picked up. They must see your vet within 72 hours of going home to keep the health guarantee valid. We can arrange later, after the 10 day window, pick up dates (if available). A $10 a day boarding/training fee will be added and must be paid at the puppies 8 week mark. Good dogs allows scheduled payments and can be set up to keep things simple. The boarding fee is charged to cover added food, daily training, any additional vet visits, vaccinations and deworming's.

Pick up Options

1) Pick up in person. We love for you to meet our dogs, see where your puppy is raised and spend some time getting to know your puppy.

2) Meet locally

3) Meet at SLC Airport for self pick up

4) Arrange Flight Nanny. Our nanny fly's the puppy in cabin. $600 paid in full before leaving, covers their time, flight costs and use of their puppy crate. They fly standby and we arrange morning flights so it allows them to get back home the same day. You just meet at the arranged airport and pick up your puppy!

They fly for many different breeders so if you are wanting a flight nanny I need to know ASAP to arrange the date as far in advance as possible. I do NOT guarantee they will be available on specific dates. When someone request a nanny I reach out and see if their schedule allows it. If a nanny cant be arranged I'm happy to work with you on option 5.

5) You can arrange ground or other means of travel for your puppy. This has to be mutually agreed on.

All additional costs for puppies travel are at the buyers expense.

PDF versions of my contracts are in the following links. When we are ready to sign, I will send an electronic version to sign through GoodDog.
